The University of Konstanz is pleased to welcome you! On this page, we would like to tell you about the subject-specific conditions related to being a parenting student. The departmental student advisory service is on hand to help you either during normal office hours or by appointment via your programme organiser.

Subject-specific services

Our department offers the following options which allow you to organise your studies more flexibly, in addition to the university’s general services for parenting students:

  • Advice on how to organise your studies
  • Flexible internships
  • Electronic services and digital media for courses
  • Admission to a seminar or exercise at a specific time

Important

Please note that there is no legal entitlement to a specific support measure. You need to clarify this with the departmental student advisory service and submit an application if necessary.

Coursework and examinations

In principle, you can participate in courses and exams whilst on maternity or parental leave.

Rules on studies and family in the examination regulations

Bachelor in Economics

§ 9 Non-attendance, withdrawal, deception, infringement of rules, protected periods, disabled students

(8) Upon application by a candidate, maternity leave, such as is stipulated in the relevant legislation (in Germany: Mutterschutzgesetz) must be respected. Supporting documents must be submitted together with the application. Maternity leave interrupts all time limits stated in these examination regulations; the duration of maternity leave is not counted as part of such time limits.

(9) Equally and upon application, the time limits for parental leave in accordance with legislation valid at the time regarding parental allowance and parental leave (in Germany: BEEG) must be taken into account. At the latest four weeks before the date from which the candidate wishes to take parental leave, he/she must notify the Examination Committee in writing, including the necessary supporting documents, of the length of time or for which periods of time he/she wishes to make use of his/her entitlement to parental leave. The Examination Committee must inspect whether the legal conditions are fulfilled which would entitle an employee to parental leave in accordance with the relevant legislation on parental allowance and parental leave (in Germany: BEEG) and notifies the candidate of the outcome or, if applicable, of the new examination deadlines. The time period allowed for compiling the written paper in the bachelor’s examination cannot be interrupted by parental leave. The topic is considered not to have been assigned. The candidate is assigned a new topic after the end of his/her parental leave.

(10) Students with family commitments which go beyond Paragraph 9 can also apply for a prolongation of time limits in accordance with these examination regulations. Supporting documents must be submitted together with the application.

Bachelor in Mathematical Finance
