Study at the university even though you’re still at school? Through our Schülerstudium programme, particularly talented and interested school pupils can take part in the regular lectures in our department and sit exams too. If you join us as a student later on, your previous academic achievements will be credited.
The following categorically applies: School comes first! That’s why, amongst others, we need your school’s consent for you to participate in our Schülerstudium programme. Your school will grant you leave of absence from your school lessons for times when you are attending university courses.
You can start the Schülerstudium programme in our department in either the winter or the summer semester.
Lectures in the winter semester
Introduction to economics
In this lecture, you will be given an introduction to typical thinking patterns and basic terminology in the field of economics and deal with pricing in competitive markets and the impact of market interventions. Other topics are external effects, public goods and how the tax system is structured.

Introduction to marketing
Marketing: That means all activities to do with advertising, market analysis and targeted product development which are intended to increase sales. The lecture deals with markets, market relations and market definitions as well as market research, the fundamentals of product, price, communication and distribution policy and how to put together a suitable marketing mix.

Mathematics I for economists
Maths at university level is often more abstract than the maths you are familiar with from school; we often calculate with letters rather than with numbers. In this lecture, you will learn the basic terms used in mathematical thinking and be introduced to differential calculus, integral calculus and integration methods.

Statistics I
In this English-language lecture, you will learn the fundamentals of Statistics - an important instrument in the economist’s toolbox. You will deal with datasets and learn how to describe and analyse data. Probability calculus also plays a role here.

Economic decision making
In this course, taught in English, you will learn about how optimal decision are made in theory and how people decide in reality. This is the field behavioral economics works in, using e.g. experiments.

Introduction to business economics
This course lays the foundations for studying business economics. It will begin by defining some of the basic economics concepts - utility, benefits, costs, supply, demand, rationality - and then study economic theories underlying decision making in profit-oriented firms.

Lectures in the summer semester
Microeconomics I
In the area of microeconomics, you will analyse the activities of economic entities - these might be individuals or enterprises as a whole. In the lecture you will deal, for example, with how prices are set or change. Apart from cost or supply function, you will learn about monopolies or oligopolies and deal with decisions in risk situations from an economics perspective.

Fundamentals of corporate accounting
In the lecture you will learn about corporate accounting in accordance with the rules of Germany’s commercial code. You will deal with accounting procedures for simple business scenarios, legal and institutional aspects as well as financial reports and gain an insight into international financial reporting.
