Lecture on Economic Reform in Europe

Organisation & Registration

Course registration is on ZEUS; no password is required. Registration gives access to the course material. Also, once registered participants will receive information by e-mail.

The course is organised in two blocks. The first block consists of lectures. The second block is similar to a seminar, with presentations by the participants and discussion. Topics for the presentations will be assigned on the first day of the course.

Content

The course deals with key aspects of structural reform that aims to raise economic performance. Issues considered include:

  • Reform transmission channels
  • Criteria to assess the appropriateness of regulation and reform requirement
  • Evaluation of reform Impact on economic magnitudes
  • Political economy issues of reform
  • Reform surveillance
  • Areas of reform in the European Union

Attendance and Grading

Full attendance of all parts of the course is compulsory. Participants should be familiar with basic micro and macroeconomics. Knowledge in econometrics is of help.

Grades will be based in equal weights on participants' presentations and the outcome of a written test.

17, 18, 19 April (1st block): Lectures – four hours per day.
10, 11, 12, 13, 14 June (2nd block): Participants’ presentations and discussions of the homework – four hours per day.
Immediately at the end of the course: Written test about the material presented in April. (Answers can be given in English or German.)
