What is a Science Slam?

A Science Slam is a scientific talk where scientists present their own scientific research work in a given time frame in front of a non-expert audience. The focus lies on teaching current science to a diverse audience in an entertaining way. The presentation is judged by the audience.

What is the idea of the Science Slam?

One very important feature of GSDS is the interdisciplinarity. However, so far interdisciplinary activities have been limited due to spatial distance and the lack of departmental cross-cutting seminars and/or activities. The Science Slam is not only an opportunity to get to know to all other students of the GSDS but as well to find out whether there does exist any research overlap among students.

The idea of the Science Slam is that all second year students present their research topic in 7 minutes in a way that people from other disciplines are able to understand it. The audience will decide which slammer will be the glorious winner.

We are looking forward welcoming you and join our research topics with you.

Best,
Sabine Otto, Peter Haffke
and the GSDS Office
