Quantitative Economics

Area of specialisation A

The compulsory courses in this module fall mostly under the topic of macroeconomics. What they all have in common is a quantitative approach, meaning that research questions or theories are explored and explained using mathematical models.

Here are some examples of the topics you will be dealing with:

  • How do different individuals’ decisions mutually influence each other?
  • What methods can we use to analyse such decisions?
  • Will my studies contribute to economic growth?
  • What happens if the European Central Bank raises the key interest rate (interest rate at which banks conduct their transactions with the ECB)?
  • How can cash flows be evaluated?

Conditions: Apart from the courses in the foundation programme (especially mathematics, statistics and economic theory), no special knowledge is expected of you in terms of content. You should be interested in grappling with macroeconomic and financial research and like working with mathematical models.
