Bachelor Economics

Economics

Within our Bachelor's Programme in Economics you will analyze economic activities of consumers, businesses and public institutions. While economics tackles a society’s basic economic relationships both on a micro- and macro-level, business economics concerns itself with economic interrelations of single businesses and their respective operational processes.

Bachelor's Programme in Economics

This programme is an interdisciplinary one. In addition to the foundations of economics,  this programme imparts knowledge in business economics such as accounting, financing and marketing. Furthermore, students are given the possibility to choose from a wide range of soft skills (Schlüsselqualifikationen). Our Bachelor’s Programme in Economics usually takes six semesters to complete and is sub-divided into a basic and an advanced study period.

Subject matter is conveyed through lectures, seminars and tutorials/exercises. Courses are usually held in German but – depending on the lecturer – may also be offered in English.

After passing the "Orientierungsprüfung", i.e. after the first year students choose one of the following six major fields of study:

  • Quantitative Economics (A): This field of study uses quantitative research methodology to deepen and expand the analysis of Economics and Finance issues.
  • Business and Economics Education (B): The advanced study period deals with questions of economics education, professional learning as well as business education and is supplemented by an elective subject. Additionally you will commit yourself to one of two study tracks:
    • Track I: You will extend your knowledge in economics by choosing additional courses in the fields of Marketing & Management, Accounting & Finance, Industrial & Labour Economics or Economy & State.
    • Track II: You will choose one general education subject out of 13: Politics, History, German, English, French, Italian, Spanish, Russian, Computer Science, Mathematics, Physics, Chemistry or Sports.
  • Professional Learning and Human Resources Management (C): Subject matter consists of topics concerning qualification and human resources development in enterprises and organisations. Furthermore, basic human resource-related content will be developed.
  • International Financial Economics (D): In this field you will deal with subject matter including capital markets, business formation and financing enterprises, corporate governance and international monetary economics.
  • Psychoeconomics (E): Besides economic issues you will deal with basic topics of psychology, for example social, developmental or bio-psychology.
  • Applied Economics (F): You may combine your main course in Economics with a minor or attend various lectures within the scope of the elective module. You can choose to minor in Politics, Public Administration, Law, Computer Science, Sociology, Philosophy, History or British and American Studies.
